Govt amends recruitment rules for LMD Gazetted services

Government has notified fresh Service Recruitment Rules for Gazetted services in Legal Metrology Department by replacing J&K Legal Metrology (Gazetted) Service Recruitment Rules, 2005.In this regard, the government has issued SRO 466 notifying J&K Legal Metrology (Gazetted) Service Recruitment Rules, 2017 in which Schedule-I comprise 28 sanctioned strength of posts, including 2 Joint Controllers, 07 Deputy Controllers and 19 Assistant Controllers while Schedule II provided minimum qualification and method of Recruitment. As per Schedule II, Joint Controller can be appointed 100% by promotion from Class –II having at least three years substantive service in that class while Deputy Controller will be selected 100 % by promotion from Class-III having at least three years substantive service in that class.  According to the new rules, in case of Assistant Controller, minimum qualification should be BSc with Physics as one of the subjects from a recognized University Or BE/BTech in Engineering from a recognized University while two criteria have been mentioned for recruitment for the post of Assistant Controller.

  For the Assistant Controller, there will be 50% direct recruitment and during probation period of one year, a candidate has to successfully undergo basic trainings course from the institute established by the Government of India for the purpose. Similarly, Assistant Controller will be recruited in the Department 50% by promotion from amongst the members of Class-I (Executive) of Jammu and Kashmir Legal Metrology (Subordinate) Service having not less than five-year substantive service in that class and having passed the Basic Training Course from the Institute established by the Government of India for the purpose.    Following notification, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali said after assuming the charge of the Department, he was trying hard to amend the rules according to the present need and now Government has issued fresh rules replacing 12 years old rules. He said that new rules will strengthen the Department in better way.
