Ludhiana College of Engineering and Technology organized an awareness seminar under the title Say no to drugs campus in which more than 300 students and faculty participated.The Key note speaker at the moment was Dr. Pawan Kumar, Principal, LCET . While speaking at the moment informed that  the controversy over the number of drug addicts in Punjab looks set to continue after a new study by the Chandigarh-based PGIMER has estimated that the number of people addicted to opioids in the state could be between 1.7 lakh and 2.7 lakh. The PGIMER study is called Epidemiology of Substance Use and Dependence in the state of Punjab and is based on two surveys, which have projected two vastly different estimates of the number of drug addicts.According to him drugs addiction has become a major problem especially amongst youth. While the government is taking stringent measures against drug traffickers but it is important to make the youth aware of this dreadful menace so that no one falls a victim to this. 

The punishment for drug trafficking is very stringent and it may even include death penalty for perpetrators of this crime.Students  were later, informed that even harbouring drug offenders is a serious crime. Drug abuse has become serious problem in our society which needs to be dealt with immediately. If any youth knows someone, who is addict, then immediate steps should be taken to de addict the person by counselling him and rendering help.While Explaining ill effects of drug abuse  Chairman LCET Vijay Gupta said that young lives are lost due to drug addiction, Families are ruined due to drug addiction so it is high time to  sensitize and spread awareness about ill effects of various drug abuse to the college students & society because  alarming rate of drug abuse has gripped the region .   According to him It is a major hurdle in progress and prosperity of the country.
