Amid spontaneous shutdown, thousands of people on Tuesday participated in the last rites of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant killed in a gunfight with Government Forces in Tral area of Pulwama district yesterday. dil Rashid Chopan, who had been rescued by local people from encounter site in May this year at Saimoh village was killed in a gunfight in Gulshanpora Gujarbasti village of Tral township, was laid to rest at the martyrs’ graveyard in Lurow where thousands of people attended his funeral prayers.Reports said that men, women, children and old participated in funeral procession amid pro-freedom slogans. Women were seen showering flower ptals and confectionaries over the body of young militant who was only 17 years old. Eyewitnesses informed that at least four armed militants surfaced at the funeral and offered a gun salute in full public gaze while mourners continued to chant pro-Islam and pro-freedom slogans. Meanwhile, people observed a complete shutdown in the town. All the shops, educational institutions and business establishments remained shut while transport also remained off the roads. Mobile Internet service continues to remain suspended for the second consecutive day. It was suspended yesterday after the killing of teenager militant. (CNS)
