Chairman Legislative Council Haji Anayat Ali today said that the present regime is in the process of taking a number of measures to strengthen Kargil in terms of infrastructural development, adding for the first time in the history of the district, projects worth over Rs 100 crore have been sanctioned under Central Road Funds (CRF). The start of work on these projects he said will usher a new era of development in the district.

The Chairman stated this while addressing public delegations during his extensive visit of various villages including Akchamal, Mangmor, Poyen, Beathang, FarkaShilikchey, YoqmaShilikchey, HandurmanBroq, Handurman Mal and adjoining villages in Kargil block.Haji Anayat Ali informed that for widening and up gradation of a circular road from main market Kargil to Degree College Kargil via Poyen area including all interior roads, a project at a cost of Rs 15 crore 74 lakh is in the pipeline which is expected to be sanctioned early next year. The project he said will prove a boon in providing satisfactory road connectivity facilities to Poyen and adjoining areas. Moreover, several other projects worth over Rs 40 crore under CRF are in the pipeline which will be sanctioned in near future, he added.

The Chairman further said keeping in mind the significance of Kargil-Batalik road as the lifeline for Akchamal, Sodh, Silmoo, Lhalungand other villages in the Batalik belt, he is making personal efforts to give the road a major face-lift. He said that a proposal for widening and maintenance of the road stretch is in the active consideration of the BRO authorities which would be sanctioned soon so that the people of these areas remain well connected to the district headquarter especially during the winter season.Haji Anayat Ali said that efforts are also on to ensure the inclusion of a number of villages including Handurman, Kaksar and Shilikchey under the list of border areas so that the villages could be benefited from BADP schemes.Meanwhile various deputations in these villages apprised the Chairman about their grievances and demanded to consider the repair of irrigation canals, water supply schemes, water reservoir tanks, link roads, schools, construction of crate and snow check bunds, widening and blacktopping of link roads, installation of mobile towers in the area and other related issues.

The deputations also pitched for the inclusion of HandurmanBroq and Mal and Shilikchey as border areas, besides provision of BADP funds for development of these areas.Responding to the public demands, the Chairman said that the present government is committed for the equitable development of all three regions of the State and particular focus is being given to ensure the welfare of the people living in the remote and far-flung pockets.Haji Anayat Ali assured the delegations that all their genuine demands would be taken up on priority and steps for the fulfilment of demands would be taken in a phased manner. He also gave on spot instructions to the concerned authorities to prepare DPRs for the establishment of solar and hydro projects, construction of various link roads, water supply schemes, irrigation canals, community halls, besides other requisite infrastructure in the area.During the tour, the Chairman distributed sewing machines purchased out of his CDF funds among the womenfolk of OlgrongAkchamal.
