Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab today demanded that the Punjab government seize passport of Leader of Opposition, Sukhpal Singh Khaira who has been issued non-bailable warrants as an accused by a Fazilka court in connection with a case under the NDPS Act. In a letter emailed to the Chief Secretary, Punjab, Karan Avtar Singh, BJP state vice-president Harjit Singh Grewal and BJP state secretary Vineet Joshi also demanded that the non-bailable warrants issued against Khaira be executed at the earliest and a lookout notice should be issued so that he doesn’t escape the country. The BJP leaders in their letter said, “In order to ensure that Sardar Khaira does not influence any of the accused or destroy evidences, the Punjab Police may be asked to execute the non-bailable warrants against Sardar Sukh Pal Singh Khaira immediately. Since, Sardar Sukhpal Singh Khaira is under security cover of Punjab Police, getting his location is minute's job”.Apprehending that Khaira might escape the country in order to avoid the process of law, the BJP leaders said, “The Hon’ble Additional Sessions Judge in the order while issuing NBW against Sardar Sukhpal Singh Khaira as an accused observed that the chances of conviction are high. He may flee abroad, so, we request that his passport be seized till the proceedings are over and at the same time a look out notice be immediately issued against him”.
