District Development Commissioner Pulwama, Ghulam Mohammad Dar today convened a meeting here in which he directed for the launch of a 7-day campaign against polythene in the district. He also called for raising awareness about ill-effects of polythene use. The DDC said that a concerted campaign needs to be carried out in the district to make people aware of ill effects of using polythene in day to day life.
He said that effects of plastic bags on the environment are really quite devastating given its non-biodegradable nature. He also directed the concerned to seize the polythene from the shopkeepers and vendors in the district. He stressed upon the officers of Municipal committee and revenue officials of the district to intensify the drive so that Pulwama becomes polythene free district. The DDC further directed the concerned officers to take action against vendors who put their commodities on roads and footpaths and against illegal parkers.Additional Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Executive Officer Municipal Committees, Tehsildars and other concerned were also present in the meeting.
