BSF organises half marathon in memory of killed troopers

In a bid to pay homage to the killed Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, the outfit's South Bengal Frontier on Sunday organised a half marathon in the city.The race, which was open for both male and female participants, started from city's Red Road area.The 21 km-run was flagged off by the Indian Army's Eastern Command chief, Lt. Gen Abhay Krishna, while the 10 km race was flagged off by West Bengal Sports Minister Laxmi Ratan Shukla."The marathon received overwhelming response of residents of Kolkata and total 2732 runners participated in the run," a spokesperson said.In addition, the force officers, subordinate officers and men from different battalions, sectors and other establishments under South Bengal Frontier also participated in the event."An amount of Rs 12 lakh which was collected by way of registration money for this event has been contributed in the Martyrs Fund at the BSF headquarters in New Delhi," the spokesperson added.
