Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Ghani Kohli today said that the government is committed to upgrade veterinary healthcare for growth and development of livestock in the state. He was speaking at a function organised by Jammu and Kashmir Gao Raksha Samiti here at Gaoshalla Ambphala to mark celebration of Gopasthmi.  The day of Gopasthmi is related to the Indian tradition of revering and respecting ‘Gaomata’ as a sacred animal.  A large number of devotees were present at the Gaoshalla where the organisers held special prayers and Hawan.

Describing sheep and cattle rearing as main occupation of people in rural areas, the Minister said that government has laid special focus on expanding veterinary healthcare reach to every nook and corner of the state.   Meanwhile responding to the demands projected by the Samiti members, Kohli said that his department will provide all possible help to upgrade facilities at the Gaoshalla, including modern vet services.
