National Police Day: Homage paying functions, commemoration parades held in Jammu province

Tribute, homage paying functions and commemoration parades marked the National Police Day celebrations across Jammu province today. A commemoration parade was organised at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur in memory of the martyrs of Police, Army and Para military forces. IGP, Director Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur, Mohammad Sulaiman Salaria, other senior Police Officers, staff members and 793 trainees of various training courses paid homage to the departed comrades at the martyrs’ memorial site in SKPA premises.Tribute were paid to  370 Gallant officers and jawans of Police organizations of various states, BSF, CISF, CRPF, Fire services, Civil defence and Home guard, ITBP, NCB, NDRF & SSB who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty  during the period 01-09-2016 to 31-08-2017. The martyrs   sacrificed their lives while    curtailing and eliminating cross border infiltration, cross border terrorism, and during handling of law and order situation in the states including sensitive State of Jammu and Kashmir.In his address,  Director Police Academy   apprised the participants  about the history of commemoration day which traces back to 21st October 1959, when a patrol party of CRPF, led by SI Karam Singh, was ambushed by the Chinese forces at Hot Springs Ladakh and 10 jawans attained martyrdom. 

The bravery and resultant sacrifice of the jawans fighting at 16,000 ft. altitude, in extremely cold conditions and against all odds, is an epitome of the rarest of the rare courage. Indo-Tibetan Border Police sends a representative party of all Police forces, of the country, to Hot springs, Ladakh every year to pay homage to these martyrs.The Director informed the participants of the Commemoration Parade that Jammu & Kashmir Police have always offered supreme sacrifices for the country and the State in fighting cross border terrorism and cross border infiltration devised by the enemy from across the border to ensure Peace, Prosperity, Brotherhood and National Integration in the State.Director of the Academy read out the names of all 370 gallant officers    and stressed upon the staff and trainees to get inspiration from countless sacrifices of the martyrs.   He also remembered 492 SPOs and 132 VDC members, who sacrificed their lives since 1989- the start of militancy in J&K.Meanwhile, the District Police Rajouri observed the 58th National Police Day also remembered as Police Commemoration Day in District Police Lines.Present on the occasion were Chairman for the Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People Kuldeep Raj Gupta, Legislators Qammar Hussain, Ravinder Raina and Vibdoh Gupta, DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range Deepak Slathia, SSP Yougal Manhas, Addl. SP Mohd Yousuf, SP- CID Khalid Amin, Dy.SP DAR Shazia Mir, SDPOs, SHOs and the family members of the martyred police personals.

Commemoration parade was held and rich tributes were paid to the gallant police officers of the country and especially from Rajouri.DIG & SSP read out the names of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty during the last one year.The legislators highlighted the role of Jammu & Kashmir Police and Security Forces in gradual restoration of normalcy in the state and combating terrorism. They also paid respect and tributes to those police personnel who attained martyrdom.A blood donation camp was also organised on the occasion to inculcate the spirit of sacrifice among the police officials.Legislators and Police officers  also interacted with family members of police martyrs.  They were also honoured on the occasion.The National Police Day was also observed at Government Higher Secondary School Thanamandi, Govt Higher Secondary School Kakora Manjakote & Govt Higher Secondary School Peeri by the staff & students of these schools. A number of prominent citizens and family members of the martyrs who had studied in these Schools were also present. Similar commemoration parades and tribute paying functions were held in all other districts of Jammu region.
