State Level Media Workshop was organised by election department to sensitize media persons about EVM and functioning of VVPAT Machines here at Shimla today. Joint chief electoral officer Dr. Sonia Thakur said VVPAT is an independent verification system for voting machine designed to allow voters to verify that their vote was cast correctly. VVPAT is readable by human eye and voters can immediately interpret his vote within seven seconds.She said celebrities from Himachal who have earned name and fame nationally and internationally have been requested to inspire voters in the State for maximum participation in the election to strengthen democracy. Muskan, a youth with special ability has been involved in the awareness campaign to motivate youth and especially persons with disability to participate in the election.Neeraj Sharma, OSD Election said voting percentage over the years has increased substantially due to sustained awareness campaigns in the State for making certain participation of every eligible voter in the election process. He said best electoral award for media practices will be given to media persons this year for giving best media coverage for awareness of common man.Youth icon Muskan said that she was motivating college and university students for their participation in the election for strong democracy and right candidate.
