Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat today visited Government Medical College & Hospital, Jammu to review the treatment facilities for the patients with Swine-flue and Dengue symptoms.The Minister also took round of various wards, including emergency, orthopedic, surgery and recovery wards and interacted with the patients, attendants and enquired about the healthcare facilities available at the hospital.
Bali issued necessary instructions to the Principal and Medical Superintendent for further strengthening treatment facilities in wards dedicated for the suspected dengue and N1H1 patients. He asked the hospital management to keep close vigil on the situation and take all required measures to for best care for such patients. He also passed instructions for de-congestion of emergency ward.The Minister was apprised that during the past two months as many as 1390 patients with symptoms of Dengue were reported in various hospitals, including GMC from various parts of Jammu division, of which 270 were tested positive, 756 negative, while 364 cases are under investigation. It was also informed that there was no death due dengue as prompt treatment was provided to all those tested positive. The concerned health institutions have provided necessary treatment to all the patients and majority of them have been discharged after treatment.
Similarly, as many as 73 patients with the symptoms of Swine-flue (NI-HI) were reported, out of which 10 tested positive and rest 63 negative. However, three patients suffering with multiple ailments died during treatment in GMC.The authorities maintained that elaborate arrangements have been put in place to deal with the cases of such nature and a separate ward with a bedding capacity of 30 has been established. The laboratory is fully equipped for undertaking tests of such cases in the GMC and district hospitals.Speaking to the media, the Minister said that authorities have made elaborate arrangements to provide best treatment to all such patients and there is no cause of worry. He said all necessary preventive measures are being made by the concerned authorities to contain the rise in number of such cases. “The Health Department in coordination with the Jammu Municipal Corporation has been undertaking regular fogging and sanitation drive in the vulnerable areas and also creating awareness among the masses through newspapers and electronic media for taking preventive measures” he informed. The Health Department has also been issuing advisories and people should pay heed to these to keep away from such diseases, said the Minister.Principal GMC, Dr. Sunanda Raina, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Dara Singh accompanied the Minister.
