Poonch , 02 Oct 2017

Days after flag meeting between India and Pakistan over border skirmishes, the frontier sectors of Poonch reverberated with mortar shelling and firing after the armies of both the countries yet again came face to face. Both the countries accused each other of ceasefire violations. Indian officials said that Pakistan resorted to massive mortar shelling and firing Kerni, Kasaba and Digwar sectors, leaving at least two civilians dead and many injured. The deceased included a 10 year boy Israr Ahmed, a resident of Kerni Sector. He was killed in Kasaba Sector while the girl died in Digwar. A Border resident at Digwar told news agency CNS that the dry grass and crops of villagers caught fire in Pakistani shelling. “We are stuck in our homes and are unable to come out in open. This is a routine affair and we want permanent solution to our daily woes,” he said.An India official said that Pakistani troops indulged in firing and mortal shelling at border villages and forward posts along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning. “We also retaliated effectively,” he said.Reacting to these ceasefire violations, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy CM Nirmal Singh has said, "Pakistan is a country of cowards. On the one hand, they show white flags while on the other, they target civilians." (CNS)
