Students of Government Degree College Pulwama on Thursday staged a massive protest against their institute administration for alleged misbehavior during their frisking for smart phones. The agitating students told news agency GNS that a Zoology Professor resorted to misbehavior with students while they were being frisked for smart phones at the College gate. They said that the College administration recently banned the use of smart phones inside institute premises after a video of classrooms went viral.“The misbehavior and abuse is unacceptable. We cannot tolerate this attitude of College administration and therefore we demand that the accused Zoology Professor and principal should be transferred,” the agitating students demanded. They shouted slogans against the College administration and were holding placards inscribed with ‘we want justice’ slogans. The students boycotted their routine class work and remained adamant on their protest.

Meanwhile, the Principal GDC Pulwama Bashir Ahmad Mir told GNS that he has ordered a probe into misbehavior allegations leveled by students of the College against the administration and a professor in particular. He however said that the students could be fumed at the ban on use of smart phones inside College premises.

“We recently told students to come without smart phones because recently a video of college got viral in which some male and female students were seen talking to each other on classroom benches. Following this incident, hundreds of parents compelled me to enforce the ban on smart phones and asked me to focus on students’ education,” he said. The Principal said that after consultations with College administration, it was decided that only basic mobile phone models would be allowed inside the institute. “We told the students that since it becomes mandatory to inform parents about well being sometimes, so you can bring basic models with you. So, from four days, we have been conducting frisking at gate and everything was peaceful but I don’t know what happened today which compelled students to protest. May be someone’s ego was hurt,” he said. The Pulwama College Principal accused miscreants of creating disturbances and assured that the matter would be resolved soon. “We the teachers are for welfare of the students and we always think about their betterment. I was out of College for a programme at DC Office when someone called me and informed me about the incident. We understand children are angry but the matter would be sorted out soon,” he added.
