Sham Lal Chowdhery reviews PHE deppt works in Ladakh

Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Chaudhary today convened a meeting regarding the ongoing development works in the PHE sector in Ladakh region.CEC, LAHDC Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo and four Executive Councilors attended the meeting. It was also attended by SE PWD, Ex-en PHE and senior engineers of the department.Minister said that the money under NRDW has been reduced but it will compensate under BADP for Ladakh region.He asked the officers to submit project report for the same so that funds will be released.On procurement of winter stocking, the Minister instructed Ex-en PHE to send the demand list and assured its supply before closure of national highway.Chaudhary announced two hand pumps for each councilor and 600 hand pumps in total to Leh district. The Minister also stressed on testing sample of drinking water regularly to ensure safe water to people and urged council to monitor it on ground.

The Minister informed that the central government has given assurance of redressing the issues regarding FMP, PMKSY and flood related issues.He instructed Ex-en PHE to submit detailed report on further needs and present status of different schemes besides assuring redressal of all issues timely.Later, the Minister made a surprise visit to Ibex colony and found the hand pump non functional and directed for action against the concerned.The Minister asked the officials to submit a list of number of non- functional hand pumps and make all of them functional.He also visited war widow colony and interacted with the residents and directed the Exen PHE to install more hand pumps in the colony and redress their water problem.During the meeting, CEC highlighted the major issues pertaining to National Rural Drinking Water, salary of daily wagers of PHE department, filling of vacant posts, water supply provisions in winter months, and delay in start of hand pumps scheme.He also raised the issue of compensation for damages caused due to rise in the water level of Indus River.
