In connection with Nationwide Sanitation Campaign, "Swachta He Sewa" program, Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Aijaz Asad kick-started the program today from Mini Secretariat Shopian.The programme, spread over a fortnight, will cover all the important areas of the district including Government Offices, Educational Institutions, Hospitals, Anganwadi Centres, Parks, Bus-stops, Roads, Prominent Water Bodies, Community Toilets, Lanes, By-lanes, and other public places.A large number of employees, citizens and various organizations participated in the program. Besides, a company each of CRPF and Armed Police was also mobilized in the cleanliness drive.Besides manpower, the Municipal Committee Shopian deployed machinery including Water Tankers, Fumigators and Robots to clean spots while grass cutting machines and disinfectant sprays were also used.On the occasion the DDC said the objective of ‘Swachhta He Seva’ is to make our office buildings, villages and towns clean and free our surroundings of any litter.
The DDC further said a comprehensive schedule of events has been formulated which includes Swachhta Khel events, Marathon, de-silting of all Irrigation Streams, Cleaning of Drinking Water Tanks in all schools and cleanliness drive at all religious places and shrines.The DDC said since it is apple harvest season in Shopian, a special cleanliness drive shall be launched at Fruit Mandi Shopian in collaboration with Traders Association and Fruit Grower Association of the district. It was also spelled out that during this period, a day has been earmarked for launch of Swachhta drive at Pir Ki Gali, a tourist place with a fragile ecosystem.Speaking on the occasion, the DDC also requested the civil society and public in general to participate in the program and clean their surroundings. He said sanitation teams have been constituted for cleaning of the town and rural areas.To give a head start to the programme a "Swachta Express’ was also flagged off for spreading awareness over a period of fortnight across length and breadth of the district.
