Chief Secretary V.C.Pharka has directed all the Deputy Commissioners to carry out 'Swachhta Hi Sewa', fortnightly cleanliness drive starting from 15 September to mark the third anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission successfully in the state.He said the cleanliness fortnight was being celebrated from 15 September to 20 October, 2017 to make everyone aware about cleanliness as per the directions of Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.The Chief Secretary said that campaign would start on 15 September with 'Swachhta Hi Sewa' pledge. 17 September would be celebrated as Seva Diwas, where people would voluntarily contribute in cleanliness drive and 24 September as complete cleanliness day, where local people of the town, youth, women, children, sportsmen, public representatives, religious institutes, NGOs, self-help groups and other institutes would participate in the campaign. Likewise, on 25 September, the drive would be carried out in health institutes, parks, bus stops, wells, toilets and other public places. The complete cleanliness drive has been scheduled for 1 October, 2017.Shri Pharka asked the DCs to make every section of the society aware about this campaign, besides motivating them to participate in it actively.He said that cleanliness awareness drive was launched in July,2017 in all urban local bodies of the state by the Town & Country Planning and Rural Development Departments, wherein various activities like cleanliness campaign, competitions for school children would be organized. The first phase of the campaign would end on 23 September,2017 at Shimla. He said it had also been decided to organize two cleanliness days in a year on 23 September and 23 May in all urban local bodies of the state.
