The District Development Commissioner, Kupwara, Khalid Jehangir today convened a joint meeting of officers of different departments and police authorities to discuss the disaster management preparedness in the district.The meeting also discussed relief and rehabilitation measures besides measures for livestock protection in the district.The DDC impressed upon the concerned officials that the buildings and sites be identified for use as camping sites during eventualities. The concerned Departments were asked to prepare contingency plans for effective utilization of available resources in order to meet eventualities during disasters.He asked the concerned officers to look into the demands for collective shelters for protection in Machil, Karnah and Keran sectors.The DDC also asked the concerned officials for establishing control rooms at Tehsil levels for proper dissemination of information to the public at the time of disasters.Representatives from Police, R&B, Animal Husbandry, Revenue, Health, Education Departments attended the meeting and offered suggestions about formulation of disaster management plan.
