Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjeet Singh today lashed out at the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Sukhpal Singh Khaira for his political opportunism and cheap publicity gimmicks wherein he has been questioning the due legal process. He said, Khaira was suffering from selective amnesia as not very long ago he was singing paeans to Capt Amarinder to the extent describing him as a “saint statesman”. “Till less than two years ago you used to say the cases against Capt Amarinder were politically motivated and registered out of vendetta and how come now you started believing these to be genuine?” he asked Khaira.Rana challenged Khaira to organise a dharna in Bholath, his native assembly segment to prove his command and popularity. “Let you also organise a dharna there and I will also organise a dharna there and I promise you the presence in my dharna will be ten times more than yours”, Rana dared Khaira while adding that he was trying to grab the role and space of the AAP state president Bhagwant Mann.
Questioning the moral authority of Khaira to blame Capt Amarinder, Rana reminded the AAP leader that less than a month ago he had described him (Capt Amarinder) as a “saint statesman” during the bhog of Rajmata in Patiala last month, and now he was accusing him of patronising corruption.“Not just that, all through your stint in Congress you used to maintain that the cases against Capt Amarinder were the result of political vendetta and naturally these should fall flat and when the vigilance submitted a closure report you started questioning the bureau’s credentials, just because you are no longer in the Congress now”, he reminded Khaira while telling him that the facts do not change with the change of parties.Asserting that Khaira was a rootless leader who was now turning rudderless, Rana pointed out, he started his career with the Akali Dal, then joined the Congress before joining the AAP. “It is just a matter of time when you will be joining some other political party like the BJP that may serve your selfish greed for power”, he told Khaira, while maintaining that he had lost all credibility by changing his stand and position to suit his political convenience.
