To review the functioning and performance of Saakshar Bharat Mission (SBM), a meeting was held today under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Dr. Piyush Singla.The meeting was attended by the ADDC Ganderbal, Deputy Chief Education Officer, Principal DIET Ganderbal, Nodal Officer SBM Ganderbal, and Zonal Education Officers, besides all SBM in-charges, DLCs/BLCs and Preraks were also present in the meeting. DDC Ganderbal appreciated the efforts of all functionaries at District, Block and Panchayat level towards bringing a great transformation in the functioning of the programme.The meeting was told that 105 Adult Education Centres are functional in the district and 1, 00,451 illiterates and neo-literates were identified till date in which 43453 learners appeared in the Learners Assessment Test conducted by National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and 39353 were successful in clearing the exams. Besides, 600 literacy centres (part time) are running in the district by volunteers to impart literacy to adult illiterates.The DDC impressed upon the officers to further explore their potential towards achievement of noble goal of making a literate society.
