"We are breathing in the air of freedom due to the sacrifices of great martyrs and it becomes important for us all especially youth to step forward to turn their dreams and vision into reality." These views were expressed by the Local Government Minister, Punjab, Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu at Sant Singh Sukha Singh Modern High School here today while presiding over a State Level function held by the Punjab Government dedicated to the martyrdom of Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra.Bowing to the sacrifice of Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra, the minister said that this great son of the motherland avenged the atrocities heaped upon the Indian people by killing british officer Curzon Wyllie on English soil itself. The minister further said that inspite of hailing from an affluent family of Amritsar, Madan Lal Dhingra left his comfortable life and made the supreme sacrifice by kissing the gallows in the prime of his youth for the sake of country's freedom. He exhorted the youth to make Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Udham Singh their role models and contribute towards making the nation progress in every developmental sector.Profusely thanking the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh for this initiative, Mr. Sidhu said that the State Government has through holding such commemorative functions made the younger generation aware about the sacrifices of the great martyrs.
He also said that today the need of the hour is to go all out against unscrupulous elements in politics as only a healthy political atmosphere can play a role in helping the country march towards prosperity. He also reiterated that he would continue to serve Punjab till his last breath. Earlier, Mr. Sidhu, MLAs Mr. Sunil Dutti (Amritsar North) and Mr. Tarsem Singh (Attari), Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kamaldeep Singh Sangha, and Commissioner Municipal Corporation Mr. Gurloveleen Singh paid floral tributes to the martyr. On the occasion, Mr. Sunil Dutti gave a call to the youth to serve the country with devotion taking inspiration from the sacrifice of Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra. At this juncture, lecturer Aman Sharma gave insights into the life and personality of Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra. During the function, the 'Theatre Person' group of actress Anita Devgan presented a play titled 'Balidan' depicting in a befitting manner the sacrifice of the martyr. The school students presented Shabad, Choreographies and Patriotic Songs. In the end of the function, Mr. Sidhu specially honoured the families of the freedom fighters.On the occasion, SDM Mr. Rajesh Sharma, Joint Commissioner Municipal Corporation Mr. Saurab Arora, Assistant Commissioner Mrs. Alka Kalia, District Education Officer (Secondary) Sunita Kiran, XEN Powercom Mr. Harjit Singh, MD of Sant Singh Sukha Singh school Mr. Jagdeep Singh and officers from various departments were also present.
