Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh today ordered constitution of Quick Response Teams (QRT) to address the public complaints regarding power supply.The Deputy Chief Minister issued the directions while chairing a high level meeting of Power Development Department (PDD) after   inspecting various Receiving Stations in Jammu city and its peripheries during the past three days.Deputy Commissioner Jammu Kumar Rajeev Ranjan, Chief Engineer M&RE Jammu Ashwani Gupta, Superintendant Engineers and Executive Engineers of Jammu division attended the meeting.The Deputy Chief Minister along with Deputy Commissioner Jammu had paid surprise visit to   Receiving Stations at Top Sherkhania, Muthi, Janipur, Bantalab, Channi and   other part of Jammu city during late nights on August 13th, 14th & 15th to take stock of working of these installations.During the inspection, Deputy Chief Minister took serious note of the mismanagement at these installations with regard to maintenance of duty rosters, non adherence to the scheduled power cuts and poor maintenance of equipments.Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister directed the Chief Engineer to take strict action against the erring officials. He said that no laxity would be tolerated on the part of any official with regard to well regulated power supply to the people.

The Deputy Chief Minister also directed Deputy Commissioner Jammu to constitute Quick Response Teams for early restoration of damages and snags so that people do not face any inconvenience during the prevailing hot conditions.He also asked the engineers of PDD to perform their duties with dedication and carry out regular inspection in their respective areas to keep check on unscheduled power cuts.In order to create conducive and good working environment for the officials of power development department, Dr Nirmal Singh directed the Chief Engineer PDD to constitute a committee of officers to draft a plan for the renovation of existing receiving station buildings and creation of required infrastructure.Stressing on maintaining discipline in the working of the department, the Dy CM directed authorities to enforce strict adherence to duty roasters.  He asked the Department to stick to the already published curtailment schedule to avoid inconvenience to the public.He directed the officers to provide information about the unscheduled power cuts on a daily basis for requisite monitoring of the same.The Deputy Chief Minister also called upon PDD authorities to create awareness among consumers about judicious use of electricity especially during peak hours.Earlier, on Tuesday evening, Deputy Chief Minister along with officers of UEED and JMC visited Rajiv Basti Vikram Chowk to inspect the alignment for diversion of Deep Drain at Rajiv Basti/Vikram Chowk. The project being executed at a cost of Rs. 1.08 crore envisages construction of 380 mt long channel to protect Rajiv Basti from flooding during rainy season. He was informed by the Engineers that the work of the same would be started soon.Deputy Chief Minister directed for timely completion of the project to overcome the recurring problem in the area.
