As part of preventive measures, the Punjab Government has all ready put cleaning of drains in the state on war-foot to ensure cleaning of 1481.09 km long drains at a cost of Rs 16.08 crore to prevent any flood like situation. The works of cleaning of drains and flood protection at the cost of Rs 40 crores are in full swing.Giving this information, a spokesman of Irrigation Department said that complete arrangements have been made to deal with any kind of emergency situation and for this purpose some funds have also been kept in reserve. He said that necessary instructions have been issued to the field offices in this regard.  He said that some miscellaneous works which includes draining out flood water from low lying area or constructing pipe culvert for the convenience of public were also being executed to save Agriculture land and population. He further said that The departmental machines have been deployed at vulnerable sites to control expected floods during the monsoon.The spokesman further said that those areas where natural Nallahs and Choes are more in number, funds have been released for flood protection. He said that funds amounting to Rs. 160.00 lac have been approved for Pathankot district, Rs. 261.00 lac for Amritsar District, and Rs. 281.00 lac have been allotted for district Gurdaspur and works were being executed with these funds. He said that in normal conditions there was no threat to embankments constructed along the rivers.
