The National De-worming Day was held today across the district at all medical blocks.The Health department adopted the theme ‘WORM FREE CHILDREN ARE HEALTHY CHILDREN’ on the occasion to sensitize the people about the importance of deworming.The National Deworming Day is one of the flagship programmes initiated under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare held with an objective to protect children against serious worm infections which cause anemia, malnourishment and impaired mental as well as physical development of the children.The function were jointly organized by the Health, Social Welfare and Education Departments in different schools and Anganwari Centers at Sunderbani, Nowshera, Kalakote, Kandi, Darhal and Manjakote medical blocks under the supervision of concerned Block Medical Officers.
Chief Medical Officer Rajouri Dr. Suresh Gupta started the function at some schools and Anganwari Centers by giving Albendazole 400mg tablets free of cost to the children and teenagers in the age group of 1 to 19 years.While speaking on the occasion, the Chief Medical Officer said that in district Rajouri around 2.3 lakh children and teenagers in the age group of 1-19 years were targeted for deworming on the National Deworming Day.He further added that there is great need to sensitize and aware the masses about this grave concern of worm infections. He called upon all the stakeholders such as parents, teachers, doctors and officials of Integrated Child Development Programme (ICDS) to make the function a grand success and ensure the coverage of 100 percent targets.
