Lawyers Thursday staged a sit-in protest and blocked the public entrance at newly inaugurated District Court Complex here in Kashmir capital Srinagar. The protesting lawyers rued the lack of facilities. The district court complex, spread over an area of 300 Kanals of land was recently inaugurated by the Governor, Narender Nath Vohra. The lawyers alleged that there is no facility available to them while litigants have also been facing enormous problem due to lack of canteen and parking space. The facilities are available only for the judges while lawyers have been finding it hard even to get affidavits and stamps for their clients,” said one of the protesting lawyers to news agency CNS.They said that affidavits are being sold in black while not a single photostat shop is located in the court complex.“There is parking space for lawyers but not for the litigants. There is no canteen, no Photostat shop. An affidavit costing Rs 10 is being sold at Rs 50 in black. The government claimed that it is one of the beautiful and largest court complex of Asia, but those claims have proven hollow,” the protesting lawyers said.Principle and Session Judge Mr Rashid Ali Dar rushed to spot and pacified the protesting lawyers. He called the protesting lawyers and assured them that all their demands will be fulfilled. (CNS)
