Indian origin and first turbaned Sikh Britain parliament member Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi has been bestowed with 'Punjab Gaurav Award' by Punjabi Cultural Council in its annual function for his illustrious achievements in social work and promotion of Punjabi and martial art Gatka in United Kingdom.This glittering ceremony was organized by Punjabi Cultural Council (PCC) in collaboration with International Sikh Martial Art Academy (ISMAA) here at Rajiv Gandhi IT Park where various speakers lauded the services rendered by Tan Dhesi for the community. Addressing the gathering Vice Chancellor Central University Bathinda Dr. R. K. Kohali and Chairman PCC Harjeet Singh Grewal commended the efforts Mr Dhesi, who is also president of Gatka Federation UK and hoped that the British MP would raise the issues of immigration problems being faced by the Indian students aspiring for higher studies in UK and the NRIs especially related to wearing Turban in France. Speaking on the occasion Dhesi extolled the efforts of PCC and ISMAA for the preservation of mother tongue Punjabi and martial art Gatka respectively and assured that he would do his best for the sake of Punjabi and Gatka in UK. He informed that all communities from Slough had whole heartedly supported in his election campaign and would work untiringly for the welfare all the sections of society in the Britain. 

He promised to raise the problems of students in the parliament as his Labour party had already included this issue in its manifesto.Prominent among other present on the occasion included Baba Gurdev Singh Gurdwara Nanaksar Sector 28 Chandigarh, former member PPSC Sukhwant Singh Sarao, former chairman Improvement Trust Jalandhar Parmjit Singh Raipur, Bai Avtar Singh Samadh Bhai, Councilor MC Chandigarh Hardeep Singh, renowned lyricist Raj Kakra, journalist Bhupendra Narayan Singh, entrepreneur Vinod Joshi, Senior vice chairman Punjabi Cultural Council Raghbir Chand Sharma, Joint Secretary Kamal Attari and Tejinder Singh Gill, Executive Member Harkirat Singh, Finance Secretary International Sikh Martial Art Academy Baljeet Singh, Press Secretary Harjinder Kumar, General Secretary Gatka Association of Punjab Gurmeet Singh, Secretary District SAS Nagar Gatka Association Yograj Singh, Secretary Global Organ Donors Foundation Chitmanjeet Singh Grewal,  Jathedar Pritpal Singh Nanaksar, Senior Congress leader G.S.
