The district administration Rajouri today rebutted the news of 35 deaths due to drug abuse in Rajouri. The news was in circulation on social networking sites/WhatsApp News Groups some time back under heading ‘Death Mark Due to Drugs Reached 35 in Rajouri’. In the said news item, it was claimed that the district administration has failed miserably to contain the menace of drug abuse which claimed 35 lives in the district.A spokesperson of the district administration Rajouri said; “A detailed inquiry was held in the matter to ascertain the genuineness of the news item and the reports furnished by the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Rajouri revealed that no such  deaths due to drug abuse occurred in the district”, adding the concerned journalist was contacted time and again through District Information Officer to provide details of  such deaths including the bio-data of the deceased persons but he did not turn up with the details/information.The spokesman further said the news item reflects a mischievous and malicious attempt aimed at maligning the civil and police administration of the district.Taking a serious note of such fabricated and bogus news items, the district administration called upon the media persons to verify the veracity of any information before placing it in the public domain.
