The DDC Pulwama along with a team of officers took an extensive tour of district Pampore to address conversion issue of Saffron land for construction activities and illegal soil extraction for filling of lowland areas. The team comprised of Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Tehsildar Pampore, Naib Tehsildar, Chief Agriculture Officer Pulwama and other concerned officers.During the visit the DDC ordered immediate stoppage of extraction of land and said that anybody seen involved in this illegal activity will be given strict punishment as per the relevant laws of the land. He also directed the revenue officials to immediately stop the construction work in the said land and directed the concerned to book the culprits under law.The DDC said that despite the stagnation in the production of saffron  especially after floods that hit the saffron land hard, yet the yield per hectare has shown quite improvement.

The DDC credited the success to the efforts of both central and state governments who achieved the results under the flagship National Saffron Mission program.Earlier, the Chief Agriculture Officer Pulwama had reported that excavation of earth by some persons from Chandhara is posing threat to saffron land.He complained that the world famous Karewas are being leveled to carry the excavated soil to different places for filling up lowlands. They appealed the district administration to take proactive role in stopping this illegal extraction of land.Later DDC also visited Lethpora area and inspected the work on the Sprinkle irrigation system at Lethpora where the field officials gave practical demonstration to the visiting team.
