Punjab Government Goes In For Accleration Mode To Speed Up Promotions Of Teachers

Education Department To Conduct Dpc Twice In A Year: Aruna Chaudhary

The Education Department, Punjab, has taken a significant decision aimed at ending the stalemate in the matter of promotion of teachers. The department has decided to hold Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting twice in a year to ensure that the teachers eligible for promotion get promoted in a fixed time frame. This was disclosed by the Education Minister, Punjab, Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary in a statement here today.The minister said that as per the directions of the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh the education department is contemplating a number of important decisions to achieve the twin objectives of easing the working of the department and achieving the target of quality education. She further said that in order to end the stalemate in promotions of teachers and putting a stop to the practice of the teachers themselves sending their promotion cases time and again, it has been decided that the department would hold DPC twice in a year and the concerned competent officer would maintain the record pertaining to the teachers coming under their jurisdiction.The Education Minister also divulged that every DPC to be conducted after 6 months would take into account the posts likely to be vacant during the course of next 6 months and then the promotions of teachers would be carried out. The minister also disclosed that it has come to light that the many cases related to the seniority lists of teachers often linger on and to permanently solve the problem, it has been decided to update seniority lists of teachers before every DPC. She also elaborated that now, the concerned officer would update the seniority list and then the eligible teachers would be promoted through a DPC after every 6 months keeping in mind the vacant posts.
