Director General of Police, Dr SP Vaid today said two people have been arrested in connection with lynching of a senior police officer last night outside Jama Masjid in Srinagar.DySP Mohammed Ayub Pandith of Security Wing was attacked and beaten to death by a mob outside Jama Masjid in Nowhatta last night during Shab-e-Qadr, police said here."Two people have been arrested, third person identified. They will have to face the law," the DGP said on the sidelines of a wreath laying ceremony of slain officer here at district police lines today. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was also present during wreath laying ceremony.Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman and chief cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq condemned officer's lynching to death. "Deeply disturbed & condemn the brutal act at Nowhatta. Mob violence & public lynching is outside the parameters of our values & religion....," he tweeted. (GNS)
