LC pays homage to former Governor, MPs, legislators

Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali today moved obituary reference in the House, recalling their contribution and paying glowing tributes to the former Governor, former Member Parliaments and Legislators who have passed away during the period from last session.The Chairman also paid rich tributes to former Governor, G.  C. Saxena, Ex Speaker Ali Mohammad Naik, Ex Minister, Sardar Rangil Singh, Ex MP Syed Nizam-ud-din, Ex MLA Rishi Kumar Koushal and Ex MLA Shanti Devi.While paying rich tributes to the former Governor, G C. Saxena, the Chairman said he took over as the head of the Jammu and Kashmir from 26th May 1990 to 13 March 1993 when the State was witnessing tumultuous times.  The chairman said that his contribution toward the State won’t go in vain. The Chairman said that the former Governor remained as advisor to the then Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi for two year till 31 January 1988. Chairman said that Saxena's main areas of specialization were international affairs, national security and intelligence matters.   Saxena died on 14 April 2017 after a brief illness, aged 89.

Paying tributes to former MLA and Rajya Sabha member, late Syed Nizam-u-Din Shah, the Chairman said that he was born on 28th October 1931 at Takai Bahai, Anantnag.  He said that Syed Nizam-u-Din was member Rajya Sabha from 1974 to 1980.  He recorded that that after having his schooling locally, he  did his graduation from Sri Pratap College & Amar Singh College, Srinagar and Completed his MA Economics, B.Ed and LLB from Aligarh Muslim University after which he also served as he the former MLA  served as Bar President Anantnag.While paying tributes to the former Speaker Ali Mohammad Naik, the Chairman said that he had served as general secretary of plebiscite front under NC’s founder and former Chief Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. He said that he was a meticulous and dedicated political worker, who served the State with utmost professionalism. The Chairman said that Naik is a role model for many upcoming legislators of the State.While paying glowing tributes to the three-time MLA from Reasi, Rishi Kumar Koushal, the Chairman said that he held various prestigious positions in various political parties and contributed to his best for the welfare of the State.  The Chairman remarked that the former MLA's role in carving out Reasi district is still remembered. The Chairman recalled Koushal’s contribution and role in launching the Reasi agitation in 1979, which later got Reasi as district Status.Paying rich tributes to the former MLA, Shanti Devi, the Chairman said that she was a well known socio-political activist who keenly desired to work for the up-liftment of women folk and the destitute of the State, especially in Jammu region. The Chairman said that the former MLA contributed in building the party cadre in the State and giving a voice to women in the development process. 

Paying tributes to the former Minister and senior PDP leader, S. Rangil Singh, the Chairman said that was an iconic personality of Jammu region. He was a three times MLA and former Minister who was known for his integrity and dedication in his political career.  Recalling his shining educational and political career, the Chairman said that he was born at Chatthar Tehsil Bagh in the year 1933. Rangil Singh graduated from Prince of Wales College Jammu and went to Lucknow for his post graduation.  He completed his Masters Degree along with LLB from Lucknow in 1956 and went to London for Bar at Law in the year 1957. Thereafter he jumped into politics and was elected to Legislative Assembly twice from RS Pura constituency and also represented Jammu West as well. His death has been widely mourned by the people belonging to various organization ranging  from  politics to trade and industries to social organizations as well. Later, the Legislators including Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Ramesh Arora, Yasir Reshi, Showkat Hussain Ganaie, Saif-Ud-Din Bhat, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, Ashok Khajuria, Naresh Kumar Gupta, Surrinder Choudhary, Ajatshatru Singh, Vibodh Gupta, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Dr Shahnaz Ganai, Pradeep Sharma, Shamlal Bhagat, Sofi Yusuf, Yashpal Sharma, Vikram Randhawa, Sardar Charanjeet Singh, Surrinder Mohan Ambardar, Muhammad Khursheed Alam and  Girdari Lal Raina also paid tributes to the former Governor, former legislators, and former MPS. While paying rich tributes, the legislators said the deceased personalities have left an indelible mark on the socio-political history of the Jammu and Kashmir.
