''The atrocities against the Dalits, downtrodden and oppressed people of the state would not be tolerated.'' The Punjab Technical Education Minister, Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi expressed these views today while visiting PGI to inquire about the health of the members of a dalit family of village Barre of district Mansa, who were recently attacked by Shagandeep Singh and Binder Singh of the same village. The member of the victim dalit family told the Minister that the accused were eve teasing and molestating their daughters on the way and when they objected, the accused attacked the father of daughters with iron rods and sharp edged weapons. They told that when the mother tried to rescue her husband and daughters the accused attacked her and broke her leg for which she is under treatment in a hospital at Mansa. The family members also said that the attackers also used castiest and abusive language.
The dalit family members also told the Minister that police is not taking action against the culprits. Mr. Channi taking serious note of this, immediately called SSP Mansa on phone to take strict action against the accused. It is pertinent to mention that in this attack, the mother's arms were broken and the elderly father of the two daughters was wounded badly with sharp edged weapons and Iron rods on the head and eyes.S. Channi said that in this murderous attack, old man has completely lost his eye sight of one eye. He assured the family that the Punjab Government is fully committed to safeguard the lives of dalits and poor sections and stands with the victim's family. He assured the victims that strict action would definitely be taken against the attackers.On the occasion, MLA Kuljeet Singh Nagra, Youth Congress leader Sunny Mehta and social activist Gurdeep Singh also accompanied the minister to meet the victims.
