'Virsa Gram' setup by Markfed here in Sector 22 to promote marketing of house hold items of self-help groups, is getting huge response from the Tri-city visitors. The promoters of these self-help groups (SHGs) are glad from the sales and enquiries from the revisiting customers coming with friends to buy these home made products.This merchandise platform of this marketing cooperative federation was inaugurated by Registrar Punjab co-operative societies Rajat Aggarwal who appreciated this supportive initiative for SHGs in the State capital. In this 'Virsa Gram' various home made products prepared by various groups of Punjab were displayed and offered for sale.A promoter Anita Goyal from Zaika group Jagraon was very happy while sharing her experiences as she was selling homemade cup cakes, muffins, biscuits and cakes in different flavours. She revealed that customers happily buying these cookies after knowing the fact that no ‘Maida’ was used rather whole wheat Atta with bran, a fully nutritious additive, being used in the products.

Beant Sharma of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji self help group informed that in addition to the usual customers she is getting bulk orders for Phulkari work from customers. Indeed she was grateful to co-operative department and Markfed for providing this opportunity to get connected with customers of Tricity.Gurdev Kaur Deol of Global SHG was glad for the response she got for organic pulses, spices, pickles and squashes etc at this Virsa Gram. Naveen Kumar of Saraswati SHG from Ludhiana who specialised in 'Punjabi Juttie' told that the customers who came once to their stall are revisiting with their friends and relatives, which shows satisfaction of customers with the rates and quality.A spokesman of the co-operative department informed that sale of products by these groups would continue till Sunday June 11 from 10:00 AM to 7:30 PM at Virsa Gram for residents of Tricity from every Tuesday to Sunday.
