The Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa has asked the Panchayats to hold Gram Sabha session of Rabi season in the month of June. He said that the Gram Sabha is the most important pillar providing strong base to the democracy.Mr. Bajwa said that the Panchayats must hold two Gram Sabhas one each in Rabbi and Kharif seasons. He said that this makes participation village voters and residents in the development activities of the villages and also brings transparency in the working of panchayats. He asked the Panchayats to hold Gram Sabhas rising above from groupism.The Minister said that when Panchayats do not hold session of Gram Sabha the the atmosphere of fear and discomfort increases.
Mr. Bajwa said that the officers of the concerned departments should also be called in the Gram Sabha session so that most of the problems related to the villages could be settled on the spot.Mr. Bajwa said that Panchayats presnt their performance report in the Gram Sabhas and villagers also get a platform to present their views about the development issues of the villages. The Gram Sabha gives strength to the development works and this also plays a vital role in achieving Panchayat awards at National level.Mr. Bajwa has directed the Rural Development and Panchayat Department officials to provide full support to the Panchayats for organizing the Gram Sabha, because successful completion of Gram Sabha is also the responsible of the department officials.
