Floriculture Deptt conducts plantation drive on World Environment Day

A plantation drive was conducted by the Department of Floriculture Jammu in different parks and gardens of Jammu Division to mark celebration of World Environment Day.On the occasion, the tree saplings like Sita Ashok (Saraca Indica), Moulsari (Mimsopus Elengii), Chinese Rain Tree, Ficus benjamina etc, were planted in different parks and gardens of the region.Director Floriculture Jammu, Babila Rakwal, inaugurated the plantation drive at Bagh-e-Bahu garden.Project Director, Bagh-e-Bahu Project, Jammu, Sunil Misri, Deputy Director, Floriculture Jammu, A.K. Gupta, Landscape Officer Bagh-e-Bahu, D.V. Gupta and Floriculture Officer Jammu, S.K. Sultan were present on the ocassion.Director Floriculture highlighted the importance of the day and recalled the history when on June 1973 this day was first adopted as World Environment Day by the United Nations and celebrated across the world. She referred to the impact of global warming, industrial pollution, threat to environment due to felling of trees and shrinking resources due to increasing population. She impressed upon all the officers of the Department to undertake more and more plantation drives in the ensuing monsoon.
