Div Com reviews basic amenities, Ramadan arrangements in Anantnag

The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, today chaired a meeting here to review the availability of basic amenities to the people and arrangements put in pace for the ensuing holy month of Ramadan.The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, SSP Anantnag, Directors of Education, FCS&CA and Urban Local Bodies, District officers, SDMs, Tehsildars, Lumberdars, Chowkidars, Local Auqaf Committees, members of Civil Society, Traders, Prominent citizens, and media fraternity.On the occasion, members of civil society and trade bodies of the district apprised the Divisional Commissioner about various issues being faced by the public.They highlighted the issues like need of availability of uninterrupted power supply particularly during sehri and iftaar timings in the Ramadan month, potable drinking water supply, sanitation, healthcare, repair of street lights and other matters of public concern.The Divisional Commissioner directed the district officers to put in extra efforts for the convenience of the people during the month of Ramazan and ensure all the basic amenities to the people. He said that already a directive has been issued whereby all the hospital and PHCs are mandated to work 24x7.He directed the concerned officers of the municipalities to make special arrangements for the sanitation of the towns in general and the mosques in particular. He also directed for repairing the street lamps on the war-footing.

Khan said that Civil Society is an extension of the administration and has to play a proactive role in establishing tranquillity and peace in the society besides monitoring the progress of the developmental works.He said that the administration has to be citizen-friendly for which the cooperation of the civil society is highly pivotal. Besides, he called for the strengthening of the Grievance Redressal Mechanism for which the DC Anantnag was directed to establish a control room.He said that periodical reviews shall be the regular feature so that the problems faced by the people can be monitored in a proper manner. He directed the Deputy Commissioner to constitute a sub-Committee entrusted with the assignment of monitoring the implementation of the decisions taken in these periodical meets.The Lumberdar & Chowkider Association also highlighted their issues. The Divisional Commissioner called the DC to hold meetings at the Tehsil level to sort out all the revenue-related issues.

Regarding the menace of the drug addiction, the SSP Anantnag said that the district has dedicated Drug De-addiction Centre which is fully functional and currently 800 patients are enrolled who are being counselled and given proper medication.The Div Com sought the cooperation of the media to raise awareness about the menace of drug addiction and in building a society free from the malaise of drugs and narcotics. He also called for taking measures for ensuring that the bhang is not cultivated in the district.Khan directed the officers for reaching out to the people of far-flung areas so that they do not face any difficulty. Besides, he called for fixing of accountability at every level of the administration.Later, the divisional commissioner also visited the district hospital and took stock of the facilities available there. He also interacted with the patients, doctors, and paramedics. He directed the superintendent to meticulously utilize the services of the doctors so that patients do not face any kind of inconvenience.
