Police Wednesday detained scores of employees of Consumer and Public Distribution Department when they took out a protest march and staged protest in support of their multiple demands at Press Enclave Srinagar.Fair Price Shop owners (employees) of CAPD Department from different parts of Kashmir Valley assembled here and accused government of using dilly dally tactics in their regularization process. The protesting employees raised anti-government and anti-CAPD Minister slogans. They alleged that CAPD Minister Chowdary Zulifkar Ali is the biggest hurdle in implementing the cabinet order which will pave for their regularization.

The protesting employees told CNS that they will not allow the Department to open up new Fair Price shops until the government doesn’t implement the Cabinet order. “If our demands are fulfilled and we are not regularized, we will hit to roads on daily basis,” they said and added that the Fair Price employees will stage a massive demonstration against the concerned Minister and will gherao Secretariat on June 1 next month. The protesting employees after staging protest tried to march towards Residency Road; however, police swung into action and detained scores of them. Police also charged the protesters with lathhis when they tried to block the traffic on the busy road.“At least five protesters were wounded in police action,” said a protester.  (CNS)
