Students clash with Police , Six arrested

Clashes broke out between students and police inside the college premises at Baba-Demb area of Srinagar city on Monday afternoon. A large number of students attacked deployed police force with stones while according to eye-witnesses police lobbed tear smoke shells inside the college.Video and Photo Journalists alleged that police targeted them while they were covering the clashes.“They (Police) chased us away and even aimed pellets guns at us,” said a Photo Journalist to CNS.A police official while denying the charges said that they only chased away the stone-pelters.Stray incident of stone-pelting was also reported from SP College Srinagar. Sources said that after the arrest of three students from the college premises, the students dispersed. Reports said that three students from Gandhi College at Baba Demb were also apprehended by police during the clashes.Witnesses said that policemen in plain clothes masquerading as students mixed with protesting students. As the clashes started they pounced on three students and got them arrested. Witnessed added that one of the cop in plain clothes beat an arrested student to pulp.Clashes also erupted between students and government forces in Palhallan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday. Witnesses said that the students of Government Boys Higher Secondary school staged protests against the arrest of students.Government forces deployed in the area used tear gas to disperse the stone-throwing student protesters, triggering clashes.
