Educational institutes in Handwara to resume on Thursday

No student under detention in Pulwama : Police

The administration in Kupwara will keep open those educational institutes on Thursday which were closed today following student protests in Handwara town.Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, G M Dar told KNS that the three educational institutes including Government Degree College, Govt Boys and Girls Higher secondary schools in Handwara town remain closed Tuesday.“The class work in the three educational institutes will resume on Thursday,” he said.The government offices and educational institutes will remain closed in view Buddha Purnima state holiday tomorrow.Meanwhile, minor clashes and protests broke outside SP Higher Secondary School at MA Road here and in Pulwama town after Boys Higher Secondary School students protests for release of their detained colleagues.The students of Govt Boys higher Secondary School in Pulwama clashes with police in the afternoon. The protesters said that were demanding release of detained students.

However, incharge SHO Pulwama told KNS no student is under detention, “neither have we booked any student in any FIR after April 15. The official said that one student protester was detained today during protests but was released after counseling him.Meanwhile, the protesting students were dispersed off by police by firing few teargas canisters and chasing the protesters away, officials said.The government has suspended class work at five educational institutes in Handwara and Budgam.A police official told KNS that minor clashes broke out in Pulwama town and Lal Chowk on Tuesday and the school work in rest of the Valley went on peacefully. He said that the students who pelted stones on forces were dispersed off immediately. (KNS)
