Castigating the government apathy over the lack of better connectivity in the district, Inhabitants of Kupwara district are up in arms against the administration for ‘failing to take steps for the wellbeing of residents’.“Travelling on the roads in Kupwara district has become nuisance for the commuters while the roads that are in shambles has sometimes lead to the accidents, the residents in the district, according to KNS correspondent, Waseem Majnoon Mir said.They said that the condition of the roads in the district is worsened.“All roads are in dilapidated conditions. Huge potholes on the stretch give tough time to the commuters, while bumpy ride on this road leads to bad driving experience,” the local commuters said.Locals said that the worse condition of the road is a continuous agony for commuters.They alleged district administration of improper approach towards the area, which according to them has resulted in non-development of the district headquarter. “Due to bad condition of road and lack of proper drainage system, the commuters are facing problems,” they added.Inhabitants said the bad condition of roads become a nuisance especially during rains. They said roads like Kupwara-Kalarooch, Chokibal-Tangdar Road, Lolab, Kupwara-Halmatpora, Kupwara-Nagri, Muqaam Shawali , Kupwara-Trehgam, Kupwara-Srinagar Highway, Kulangam- Handwara and other link roads in main town Kupwara were in bad condition and administration is not paying any attention over it.
“The roads are in so much damaged that rainfall leaves no way for us to walk on as long strips of numerous roads turn into heaps of mud,” Nehidah Jaan, a lecturer said.Misbah Mir, a college student from Trehgam said, “We face lot of problems while going to college because of bad condition of roads. We usually reach college late for taking lectures as a half hour distance takes us more than one and half an hour.” Showket Masoodi, Civil Society Convenor said. “The dilapidated condition of the roads is also one of the major reasons which lead to frequent traffic jams."“The politicians here too are not bothered about the sufferings of the people” said Masoodi.He added that yesterday when Chief Secretary of J&K state B.B. Vyas visited Kupwara at that time the authority filled the potholes and when a common man ride on the same way he faced many challenges while riding as far as when a patient's shifted from Kupwara to Srinagar they also face same hardship. We don't understand why nobody is bothered about the pathetic condition of the road. “Half year has passed and R&B department is playing hide and seek game he also added that the dilapidated roads have made us accident prone and appealed to the authorities to look into their grievances and take steps for their early redressed.”Despite repeated attempts, Exen Roads and Building (R&B) department Kupwara couldn’t get comments as he didn’t receive the calls.
