Students protests in Sopore, Normal life disrupted

At least 27 students were injured during clashes between students and forces in Sopore town in Baramulla district on Thursday.According to KNS correspondent, the students of Government Degree College Sopore, Government Boys and Girls Higher Secondary schools tried to carry out a protest march against the alleged thrashing of students in Degree College Pulwama on April 15.However, forces fired tear gas canisters to disperse the protesting students, triggering clashes in the town.Eye-witnesses said that 27 students were injured during the clashes in the town. “The injured students were rushed to the hospital for treatment,” they added.The clashes in the town also triggered shutdown. All the shops and other business establishments were closed in the town.Medical Superintendent SDH Sopore, Dr Sami told KNS that 27 students including 12 girls had received minor injuries and were brought to the hospital for treatment. “All the students who were brought to the hospital for treatment had received minor injuries,” he said.Police officials in Sopore when contacted by KNS refused to talk on the incident.Meanwhile, the students of Government Polytechnic College also clashed with police outside their college in Gogjibagh area of Srinagar.Witnesses said that students staged a protest inside the college and later marched into the streets where they pelted stones on police.Police however fired tear gas canisters and chased away the protesting students to disperse them.
