Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has announced ex-gratia of Rs. 12 lakhs for the next of kin of Naib Subedar Paramjeet Singh, one of the victims of the barbaric assault by Pakistani troops in which two soldiers of the Indian Army were killed and their bodies brutally mutilated in Jammu & Kashmir on Monday.The Chief Minister, who is scheduled to visit the martyr’s native village in Tarn Taran on May 7, also deputed his Cabinet colleague, Rana Gurjit Singh, on Tuesday to personally meet the bereaved family of the deceased to share their tragic loss in their hour of grief. According to a government spokesperson, while Rs five lakhs in cash and a plot worth the same amount would be given to Naib Subedar Paramjeet Singh’s wife and children, Rs 2 lakhs would be paid to his parents. Besides, the Chief Minister also announced that a suitable government job would be given to the next of kin of the martyred soldier and his children would get free education for Degree Courses at one of the nine Sainik Institutes of Management and Technology in the state. The Chief Minister also sanctioned Rs one lakh, through the Red Cross, for renaming the local government rest house in Naib Subedar Paramjeet Singh's name. 

Local administration officials, including the Deputy Commissioner, SDM and SSP, attended the cremation of the martyred soldier, who was laid to rest with full military honours after his body was flown from Poonch to his native village in a helicopter. Director Defense Services, Punjab Welfare Brig (retd.) JS Arora and Deputy GoC Panther Division Amritsar Brig. Sushil Sharma were among the senior Army officers present at the sombre ceremony.Naib Subedar Paramjeet Singh, a native of village Veinpoin, sacrificed his life in the most inhuman and barbaric attack by Pakistani troops in blatant violation of the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch (Jammu & Kashmir) on Monday.Expressing profound grief and deep anguish at the heinous act of violence, Captain Amarinder Singh said the entire country was highly indebted to this brave-heart for laying down his life to protect the unity and integrity of the nation. He said that this valiant son of the soil had upheld the glorious tradition of sacrifice and valor of the great patriots and martyrs of India.The Chief Minister saluted the brave soldier and prayed to the Almighty to give the family strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss, and grant peace to the departed soul.
