619 KMs National Highways Of State Be 4 Laned By Next Year: Razia Sultana

PWD Minister instructs officers to execute development works maintaining high standards of quality

Razia Sultana, Minister for Public Works Department today said that the 4 laning of 619 kilometers of national highways of the state would be completed till next year. She said that under this project, up till now, the 4 laning of 358 kms national highways have been completed with the cost of 2150 crore and the remaining work would be completed in the year 2018-19 by all means.Presiding over the maiden high level review meeting of the department held at Punjab Bhawan Chandigarh, the minister gave clear cut instructions to the officers to execute all the development works in transparent manners adhering to the high standards of quality.Mr. Jaspal Singh, Principal Secretary of department apprised the minister that under NHDP Scheme, the union government has approved total 18 projects for the 4 laning of national highways. He assured the minister that the 4 laning of these remaining national highways would be completed next year as directed by the minister. He also apprised the minister that the union government has also approved 363.30 crore for 27 national highways and 292 crore for RoBs (road over bridges). He said that the work on these projects is under progress and be completed this year.

Chie Engineer Mr. A.K. Singla, while giving detailed presentation to the minister said that under Central Road Fund, the union government has approved 21 projects, out of which 19 projects worth Rs.576.88 crore were approved in the year 2016-17. He assured the minister that all the projects would be completed next year.Mrs. Razia Sultana also reviewed the projects of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Scheme. She was apprised that under this scheme up till now the up-gradation of 432 kms roads have been done and the work on 1350 kms roads is under progress.The development on various infrastructural projects was also brought to the notice of minister. The minister was told that various prestigious projects like; Judicial Court Complexes, Meritorious Schools, University & Colleges, Modern Jails and Maharishi Valmiki Sthal Ram Tirath Amritsar etc. are being constructed with the total cost of Rs.1000 crore. The construction of all these projects would be completed this year.Yogesh Gupta, Arwinder Singh, K.K. Garg (all Chief Engineer) and Superintending Engineers of all wings of the department were also present in the meeting.
