Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional centre Jammu today organized the 30th convocation of the Varsity.The main convocation was held at Maidan  Garhi New Delhi Headquarters and simultaneously at all its Regional Centres across the Country.Convocation at Jammu was held at the Auditorium of Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu. Vice Chancellor, Prof. R D Sharma, University of Jammu, was the Chief Guest. He awarded Degree Certificates to the eligible Learners.A total of 8105 learner from Regional Centre Jammu were declared successful and eligible to receive Diplomas and Degree certificates. Of these 3592 were provided Master’s Degree, 3975 Bachelor Degree, 438 Diplomas in various programmes and 100 Certificates for six monthly programmes. Around 300 learners of B.ED, BLIS and Master Degree programmes were awarded degrees   in the convocation function at Jammu in person.One of the learners, Reetika Kumari from Regional Centre Jammu was awarded gold Medal for her distinct performance at country level in Bachelor In Library and Information Sciences (BLIS) programme.

Prof. R D Sharma termed the 30th  Convocation of IGNOU as an  occasion of celebration of IGNOU’s achievements which is referred to as the People’s University accessible to all  those far and wide who otherwise would have lost the opportunity to gain access to higher education, improve upon their qualification and increase the chances of employment.The Vice chancellor congratulated the students for being conferred Degree Certificates and also appreciated the efforts made by the regional Centre Jammu, for strengthening the mandate of IGNOU in the region. Regional Director, Dr. Joginder Kumar Yadav, presented the regional Centre Report and listed the initiatives that the University and the regional centre Jammu have taken to strengthen students support services network in the region. Dr. Yadav said that the Regional Centre Jammu is marking its presence in the remotest parts of the Region by expanding the network of Learner Centers. He stated that the Regional Centre Jammu has already marked its presence by establishing Learner Centres in most of the far-flung and remote areas of the region.He informed that the regional centre would soon have its own campus as the state Government has allotted it 14.5 Kanal   in Bantalab. He thanked the authorities of J&K Govt. and JDA for providing land to IGNOU.
