Human rights activist Aruna Roy Tuesday wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding the promulgation of ordinances to protect three human rights legislations from lapsing. The Disability Rights Bill, Grievances Redress Bill and the SC/ST amendment bill were not cleared by parliament. The last session of the 15th Lok Sabha ended Feb 21 without passing the three human rights bills despite assurances by leaders from the government and the opposition. The activist said in the letter that it would be a great betrayal if the government does not promulgate the ordinances promised by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to the people on the last day of parliament."After the passage of five human rights bills was promised by leaders of both the government and the opposition, only two bills were passed. We want the government to promulgate ordinances for the remaining three bills to protect them from getting lapsed," the activist said.Parliament had passed the Whistle Blowers Protection Bill and the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending).
