Tourist resort Gulmarg remained out of bounds for the tourists for most of the day after scores of massive trees were uprooted due to heavy snowfall. The trees blocked the road near View Point and it was only after hard efforts were made by local police that road was thrown open for public at around 4 in the evening.Eyewitnesses told CNS that a number of trees were uprooted near Gulmarg, blocking the road for vehicular movement. A police party from Gulmarg police station headed by Station House Officer Zulqarnain rushed to the spot and cleared the road after 8 hours of hard work. “Amid heavy snowfall, policemen used axes and saw to cut the trees. The job was difficult but they did it with dedication,” said a stranded driver. The stranded drivers and passengers while hailing the role of police said that the more than 35 trees had been fallen on the road right from Tangmarg Baba Reshi to Gulmarg Police Station.Meanwhile, Army at Sadarkoot Bala of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district rescued an ambulance that was stuck in mud slide. The ambulance was carrying a pregnant woman and was on way to Lal Ded Hospital. “Realizing that this was a medical emergency, troops manouvered and  pushed the ambulance for a Kilometer and directed it on an alternate route as the road ahead was blocked due to another landslide. It was a moment to cherish when the husband of the pregnant woman Abdul Ahad Khan in hailed our efforts on phone and informed us that woman gave birth to a baby boy,” said an Army official. (CNS)
