H.S.Phoolka, Leader of Opposition, Punjab Vidhan Sabha and MLA, Dakha, has asked the Punjab Government to give prompt and adequate compensation to Punjab Farmers whose wheat crop has been widely damaged due to yesterday's hailstorm. Taking notice of Rabi crop loss in Punjab, especially in district of Sangrur and Mansa, caused due to unexpected weather conditions, Mr. Phoolka asked the Punjab Government to conduct "Girdawari" of the affected areas and assess the crop loss. Mr. Phoolka said that compensation to Punjab farmers should be on pattern adopted by Kejriwal Government in Delhi in which Rs. 20000/- per acre of land was given to farmers when their crop was damaged due to weather conditions.Citing previous occasions when the cotton was damaged in cotton belt of a Punjab due to attack of "Chitta" makhi and due to spurious pesticides available in market, many farmers committed suicides in Punjab during Akali Government, Mr. Phoolka said. To avoid similar situation, the government should act proactively, Mr. Phoolka said.
