Nearly 75 families are reeling under darkness at Gutilpora village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district following damage to community transformer last month.“15 days have already elapsed and there is no effort by the concerned officials to get the transformer repaired,” the locals said. They said there was oil leakage from transformer last month but the concerned PDD authorities failed to rectify it despite being informed well in time. “By the time PDD officials reacted, the transform was completely damaged,” they said. The locals of Gutilpora village, also accused the Power Development Department of being ‘indifferent’ to their woes.“It has been more than two weeks but there is not even a whisper by the officials which speaks volumes about the lack of concern to our woes,” locals said. The residents have been demanding installation of fresh transformer in the area to prevent what they said recurring troubles.
“We are facing immense hardships in absence of electricity. Our school going children are suffering badly. We are unable to charge our mobile phones while appliances like refrigerators and iron are lying defunct,” Mohammad Shafi Hajam, a local resident said. The locals said that their repeated pleas to the senior functionaries of the PDD to restore electricity at an earliest seem to fell on deaf ears. They have appealed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to intervene in the matter and direct the PDD authorities to restore the electricity at the earliest. When contacted Executive Engineer, PDD Abdul Karim said the department was on job to restore the electricity in the area.“We are at it. We are hopeful of restoring the electricity in next couple of days days,” he added. (GNS)
