Deputy Election Commissioner reviews bye-election preparations

Holds video-conference with State level officials

The Deputy Election Commissioner of India, Sandeep Saxena today asked the officials to put in their best efforts and work in a synergized manner to ensure free, fair and transparent Parliamentary by-elections in valley.The Deputy Election Commissioner was addressing the officials through video conference to review the poll preparedness.The meeting was attended by Chief Election Officer (CEO) J&K Shantmanu, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmed Khan, IGPs, Returning Officers, Observers, Deputy Electoral Officers and other concerned.The CEO informed the Deputy Election Commissioner about the poll related arrangements that have been put in place including preparation of electoral rolls, setting up of polling stations with adequate facilities, training of polling personnel, transport of election material, force deployment and enforcement of Model Code of Conduct.The Deputy Election Commissioner called on the officials to work in sync so that all preparations are completed within shortest possible time. He also reviewed the arrangements made for identifying strong rooms, besides arrangements for webcasting and CCTV installation in selected polling booths.The General Observer, Expenditure Observer and Security Observer also briefed the Deputy Election Commissioner about their areas of activity. Earlier the CEO held a meeting with IGP JKP, IGP CRPF and IGP CRPF (operations) to review the security related arrangements in the seven districts where polling for two Parliamentary Constituencies of Srinagar-2 and Anantnag-3 is scheduled to be held on April 9 and April 12, 2017 respectively.
