Govt committed to restore pristine glory of Wullar Lake : Baseer Ahmad Khan

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, today convened a meeting to review the progress of Wullar Lake Conservation project.On the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner directed the officials of Soil Conservation Department to stop illegal dredging of the Lake and asked the Wildlife Department authorities to put an end to unauthorized hunting immediately. He also directed the officers of Wullar Lake Development Authority (WLDA) to review the status of Lotus seedling so that Agriculture Department can take the necessary steps for boosting the Lotus production in the Lake. He also asked them to provide monthly progress report on conservation of the Lake.The Div Com said that various steps are afoot for Wullar Lake’s conservation and added that the Government is committed to restore its pristine glory.During the meeting, representatives from Fishermen Associations of Wullar Lake apprised the Div Com about various issues confronting them and sought their immediate redressal. It was said that as many as 18 villages are dependent on this lake for their livelihood.The Div Com listened to their grievances patiently and assured them that all of their problems would be considered and addressed on priority. He directed the officers of Fisheries Department to create awareness among dependent villages about various welfare schemes of the Government meant for their economic uplift.He also asked the officials to provide fresh licenses to them (dependent fishermen) and register their boat and also allot them registered boat numbers.Director Fisheries Department, Deputy Director Planning, Officers from Wildlife and Soil Conservation Departments, Wullar Lake Development Authority and other concerned attended the meeting.
