KVK organises training programme on Organic Farming

The five day training programme on organic farming organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Jammu (SKUAST-J) at Organic Training Centre, Talwara concluded here today.The programme was sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi under Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhaya Unnat Krishi Shiksha Yojana. Scientist and Head KVK, Reasi Dr. Banarsi Lal gave a detail view of principles of organic agriculture and said that Organic Training Centre established at Talwara will help the farmers to increase their organic crops production by providing the scientific guidelines on commercial organic farming.He said that with the indiscriminate use of agrochemicals, soil health is deteriorating day- by- day resulting in the ill effects on the human beings and other living organisms.He stressed on the use of Farm Yard Manures (FYM), vermicompost, bio-fertilizers, bio-fungicides, bio-pesticides, cow urine etc for commercial organic farming.

Dr. Sanjay Kaushal, scientist educated the farmers on organic agricultural techniques to increase crop production. He gave a detailed view of Homa Farming, Econatu Farming, Biodynamic Agriculture, Rishi Krishi and demonstrated the preparation of Panchgavaya and explained its use in the organic farming. He said that organic soils are rich in nutrients and healthy soils can help to produce the healthy crops which are essential for better health of people.Dr Shuja Nabi Qureshi, scientist elaborated the scientific cultivation of organic horticulture. He explained the use of bio-agents for the treatment of various diseases and insect-pests in the horticultural crops.KVK scientists along with the participants also visited the organic fields of progressive farmers of the area and interacted with them.
